Waterloo-Cedar Falls Orchestra 2019 Young Artist Concerto Competition

The wcfsymphony is accepting applications from musicians in grades eight through twelve throughout Iowa to compete in the wcfsymphony Young Artist Concerto Competition on Sunday, February 17, 2019.  The competition will be held in Davis Hall at the Gallagher-Bluedorn Performing Arts Center on the campus of the University of Northern Iowa, Cedar Falls, Iowa. Students of piano, strings, woodwinds, brass and percussion in grades eight through twelve are encouraged to participate.


Cash prizes of $400 for first place, $250 for second place, and $150 for third place will be offered. The first place winner may perform with the wcfsymphony on March 23, 2019. Deadline for applications must be postmarked no later than January 17, 2019.

IBA Board of Directors Meeting Scheduled

The IBA Board of Directors will be meeting on Saturday, August 11, 2018 at 11:30 am.  The meeting will take place via Zoom Conference Services.  Agenda items include a funding request for the All Iowa Concert Band Festival.

Karl King Award Winners Announced

The IBA Board of Directors had an ongoing discussion regarding the announcing of the Karl King Active and Retired recipients at the same time as the President Elect results are announced.  This new procedure will start next year.

In an effort to honor the spirit of that decision right away, we are pleased to announce this year’s Karl King recipients are:

David Law – Karl King Retired

David Lang – Karl King Active

Mr. Law and Mr. Lang will be recognized at the IBA Banquet on May 11, 2018.  Banquet tickets are available at the registration booth until Friday morning, May 11, 2018.

Please join us in congratulating Mr. Law and Mr. Lang for their tireless efforts promoting excellence in bands.
