Concert Band Affairs

Committee Structure

The IBA Concert Band Affairs Committee consists of a representative from each of the six districts of IBA (NCIBA, NEIBA, NWIBA, SCIBA, SEIBA, SWIBA) to serve a three-year term, with a second successive term at the discretion of the district membership.

The IBA Concert Band Affairs Committee Chair shall be appointed by the President of IBA, and shall be selected from the members of the IBA Concert Band Affairs Committee. The duties of the Chair shall include:

  1. Schedule and prepare an agenda for at least two (2) meetings of the IBA Concert Band Affairs committee to be held in conjunction with the Iowa Music Educators Association Conference/All-State Music Festival in November and the Iowa Bandmasters Association Conference in May. A third working meeting of the IBA Concert Band Affairs Committee is to be held in February (recommended) at the Iowa High School Music Association office in Boone with the Executive Secretary, if available.
  2. Attend all IBA business meetings and submit a report detailing the work of the IBA Concert Band Affairs Committee.
  3. Maintain accurate records and files with regard to the work of the IBA Concert Band Affairs Committee, and share these materials with the members of the IBA Concert Band Affairs Committee, the President of IBA, and the IBA Executive Board, as necessary/appropriate.
  4. Serve as a liaison between the IBA Concert Band Affairs Committee and the Executive Secretary of the Iowa High School Music Association, the All-State Festival Chair(s) of the Iowa Music Educators Association, and the Executive Board of the Iowa Music Educators Association.
  5. One member of the IBA Concert Band Affairs Committee will serve as a voting member of the IHSMA Prescribed Music List Review Committee. This member will be selected by the membership of the IBA Concert Band Affairs Committee, and will present a written report to the members of the IBA Concert Band Affairs Committee immediately following the meeting of the Prescribed Music List Committee in February each year. Scope of Work of the IBA Concert Band Affairs Committee

  1. Solicits input from the IBA Membership in order to develop ideas and concepts that will benefit and further promote instrumental music education in the area of the concert band idiom, and will share ideas with the current IBA president-elect for topics/clinics that would be beneficial to concert band directors at the IBA Conference.
  2. Deals with and discusses specific issues in the areas of Large Group, Solo and Ensemble, and the All-State Festivals.
  3. Serves in an advisory capacity to the Executive Secretary of the Iowa High School Music Association, the All-State Festival Chair(s) of the Iowa Music Educators Association, and the Executive Board of the Iowa Music Educators Association.
  4. Maintains a list of repertoire performed by IBA Honor Bands as included in their conference application materials.
