Longtime IBA Historian, Cheryl Crandell, has Passed Away

IBA is saddened to announce the passing of Cheryl Crandell. Cheryl faithfully served IBA as Historian for decades and truly understood the value of our organization remaining connected to its roots. Her legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of our membership as we continue to find ways to stay grounded in and knowledgeable of our past, even as we look ahead to the second century of IBA.

It is with a heavy heart that I share the sad news that IBA Past President, Guy Blair, passed away March 29, 2024. He was in Pella surrounded by his family. Guy had fallen ill a short time ago in Florida and testing showed that he had cancer spreading through his body. He was able to be transported back to Pella and his family was able to be with him at the end of his life.

Guy’s impact will be felt for years to come and his contributions to our community will never be forgotten.

Visitation will begin at 2:00 pm, Friday, April 5, at the First Church in Pella, with family present from 4:00 to 6:00 pm. The memorial service will be held at 10:30 am, Saturday, April 6, also at the First Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Peace Prayer Garden, or the Iowa Bandmasters Association Endowment Fund. The Garden Chapel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
